Rendering to file

Your "target image" is the image you intend to use (i.e. to send via e-mail or print out). When you customize settings for your target image, you should have in mind what it will be used for. Size, resolution and resulting image quality are closely connected to image use.

When you select the Render to file function

(in fullscreen), a dialog box with the same name opens (see Figure 1). When the settings for the target image have been made, click the button at the bottom of the dialog box to render and save in one step.

In the Render to file dialog box you will find the settings for the following parameters (click a heading for more detailed information):

Select the quality on the rendering. When you are satisfied with your picture and you are ready to render and save your target image, select Full render.

Choose desired paper size on the output.

Resolution refers to image quality and how much memory your image requires. You can choose between 75, 100, 150, 300, 600 and 1200 dpi (dots per inch). The higher the dpi value, the more memory the image requires; but it also means a higher quality image. Keep in mind that a large format like A3 (16.45" x 11.65") combined with high resolution (300 dpi) will create an image that requires a lot of memory.

Specify image orientation (landscape or portrait) with the corresponding buttons.

Select the check box if you wish the background in the rendering to be white.

The information shown here indicates the number of pixels in your image and how much memory it requires (in BMP format). Note that when Size (in MB) is indicated, this refers to BMP format. If you save the image in another format, the size will be different. The number of pixels (i.e. 1748 x 1234) is the same in all image formats.

By clicking Target you indicate the path to the location where you want to save your target image.

The target image is saved in JPG format (JPEG). Before you click Render to file, you should set the JPG quality. You can change the size (and therefore quality) of the image file you're saving. If you choose high quality, your file will be larger. If you choose lower quality, the file is smaller and the image of a slightly lesser quality.
