Positioning

Using the Positioning menu item, you can make fine adjustments to the position of a component on the drawing area by entering a Step and clicking on the arrow buttons.

Follow the instructions below:

  1. Choose Positioning from the Arrange menu. The Positioning dialog is displayed.

  2. Enter the amount by which you want the component to move, for example 80 millimeters.

  3. Activate the component you want to move.

  4. Then choose the direction using the arrow buttons.

Positioning can also be used to position an object a specific distance from another object.

Example:

You want to position a filing cabinet (the smaller gray cupboard, see Figure 1) exactly 1,000 millimeter away from the desk. The filing cabinet has to move to the left.

Follow the instructions below:

  1. Measure the distance between the filing cabinet and the desk using the Measuring Tool from the toolbar. In the example, the distance is 1,179 millimeters.

  2. Make sure that the component (filing cabinet) which you want to move is activated (its yellow snap points are visible).

  3. Choose Positioning from the Arrange menu. The Positioning dialog is displayed.

  4. This is where you need to do some mental arithmetic: 1,179-1,000=179. Enter 179 mm in the field Step.

  5. Click on the left arrow.

The filing cabinet now moves to the left. Measure the distance between the desk and the filing cabinet again to make sure that it is correct.
