Linking components together

Using the Connector tool you can link different components or groups of components together and also determine their relationship with one another. The connector will help you to keep track of the relative positioning of components and groups of components.

To use the connector, follow the instructions below:

  1. Select the Connector from the Tools tab and move it onto the drawing area. When you move the connector near a component or group of components, the connector will snap to the component or group.

  2. Click the connector in position on the component or group.

  3. Drag the connector to the component or group which you want to connect to and click it in position.

  4. Move the mouse pointer outside the drawing area to release the connector.

  5. Right-click on the activated connector, which takes the form of a dashed line, to display a pop-up menu.

  6. Select Settings. The Connector Settings dialog is displayed.

  7. Enter the required position for the connector using the X and Y coordinates. You can enter the position in the text box or use the predefined buttons. Remember that the distance which you enter in the Length text box will be longer if the connector is sloping than if it is horizontal.

  8. Click on OK or Apply.

Note:

  • A group which contains components which are not directly linked to one other must be a permanent group in order for the whole group to be connected to another component using the connector.
